Upcoming at St. John's
Adult Formation Series in February: Thessalonians
For the month of February the 9:30 Sunday morning Adult
Forum will be taking a look at Paul's two letters addressed to
the church at Thessalonica. We will focus on what a faith
community of long ago has to say to us, the church today.
Hopefully you will be surprised and hopeful as we consider
how to live out Paul's teachings as Christian men and
women of the 21st century. Please join us beginning this
Sunday morning and throughout the month of February as we
open our minds and hearts to God's Word for the living of our
days. Regard the following words of Theonas of Alexandria (c.
300): "Let no day pass by without reading some portion of the
Sacred Scriptures and giving some space to meditation; for
nothing feeds the soul so well as those sacred studies do."
Capital Campaign Discernment Meeting
On March 4 we ask all members to plan to attend a lunch
meeting at which we will talk about whether this parish wants
to pursue a Capital Campaign to help us make our debt more
manageable; the idea is that if we can significantly reduce the
capital we owe on our loans, we can restructure the
remainder to make our monthly payments easier to manage.
To kick off the discernment process, we will have an all-
parish meeting on March 4 after the 10:45 liturgy (around 12:
00). A light lunch will be served. The meeting will take no
more than an hour and a half, during which Sue Fornabai will
facilitate our conversation. She tells us this session has
always been fun and enjoyable for the congregations she has
worked with in the past.
Please plan to attend the March 4 meeting at noon. Your input
is important!
Ongoing at St. John's
Altar Guild
It has been a privilege for those on Altar Guild to prepare each
Sunday for Holy Eucharist. Do you have a special calling to
help serve on Altar Guild? We are asking any man, woman or
young adult to please contact Marilyn Cook, 334-3197, or
Peggy Moos, 368-1197. Training will be provided (no tests)!
Youth Fundraiser: Project CCR (Collect, Crush, Recycle)
The children of St. John’s are raising money for the parish.
Bring your aluminum cans and plastic bottles (with CRV only!)
to help St. John’s kids help St. John’s. The kids will crush
them and our families will take them to be recycled. The
children will place the money in the offering. Total is $690 as
of last week!
Fair Trade Coffee and More
The sale of fair trade coffee, tea, cocoa and chocolate
continues. Every purchase brings us closer to our goal of
providing an outdoor play structure for our youth. By choosing
fair trade coffee, tea, cocoa and chocolate, you also help
farmers earn a living wage and support environmentally
sustainable production. Your support is greatly appreciated.
We Recycle!
In addition to cashing in your bottles and cans, St. John’s
receives money by recycling your used printer cartridges and
old cell phones. Place these items in the cardboard recycling
box next to the nursery door. (Styrofoam recycling has been
discontinued.)
Sermon Copies Available
Printed copies sermons preached at St. John’s are available
on the ministry table. The audio of our sermons is also
available on CD by request.
Rector Office Hours
Fr. Harold is generally at the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays
and Thursdays. Monday is the Rector’s day off and Friday is a
study day. Saturdays are variable. To reach the Rector for any
reason, please call his cell, 209-642-5375, or leave a
message with office staff. He wants to hear from you!
